Living Colour – Gabrielle Bishop

Gabrielle Bishop is a multi-media artist working with colour, structure and light. ”My studio is my home, garden, and tree house and the countryside where I live. Perched on a hill, my studio is bathed in light from every direction: north, south, east, and west. I harvest colours from the kitchen, garden, and surrounding landscape to create the paints, dyes, and inks I use in my artwork. I gather pigments from the earth and raise them up to the light. It’s a transformative process, a kind of alchemy. It stems from my background in history and medieval stained glass. Natural colour is living, it has a special beauty and luminosity that our senses respond to, and so I let the colours speak for themselves. I translate the pigments to fabric, paper and glass and put them in settings where they can interact with the air and the light to experience each colour’s subtle beauty, energy and vibration.”

Opening Friday, September 20th at 5.30pm.

Where: Clifden Town Hall Back Stairs
