RECITE Presents: Traditional and Original Music and Poetry
September 21 | 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
€10
In this programme, composer, uilleann piper, flute and fiddle player Emer Mayock and poet Terry McDonagh blend original and traditional music with poetry in a unique, engaging exchange. Their work weaves words and music together in an easy, relaxed style, creating a rich dialogue between sound, story, and place. Emer’s composition and arrangement, inspired by Terry’s poem The Piper of Treenabontry is particularly distinctive and memorable.
Emer and Terry are nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. Drawing on a shared knowledge and deep respect for the landscapes, traditions and cultural heritage of their native Mayo, they bring together poetry and music that are shaped by place yet resonate far beyond it. The programme combines traditional melodies and original compositions with poetry that reflects the people, stories and spirit of the West of Ireland.
