Images of Ourselves
September 16 | 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Free
A special 25th anniversary screening of Images of Ourselves, a remarkable documentary created by nineteen women from Connemara as part of a Women’s Studies programme delivered by NUI Galway in partnership with Forum Connemara.
Working with filmmaker Hillary Dully, the participants researched, filmed, produced, and directed this unique project, exploring the lives of three generations of Connemara women. Through personal stories and reflections, grandmothers, mothers, and daughters share their experiences of a rapidly changing world, from life without electricity and limited opportunities to new freedoms and possibilities.
Twenty-five years later, ‘Images of Ourselves’ remains both a valuable historical record and a moving reflection on the resilience, creativity, and achievements of women in rural Ireland. This anniversary screening offers an opportunity to celebrate how far women have come while honouring the experiences and contributions of the generations who paved the way.
