Walter Beckett – String Quartet [1980]
Tchaikovsky – String Quartet No.1 in D major [1871]
Founded in 2020, the Banbha Quartet have performed widely across Ireland including the Kevin Barry Room at the National Concert Hall, and a welcome return to Clifden.
In 2020, they took part in the National String Quartet Foundation’s Beethoven 250 Series, and in 2022 they premiered Tom Lane’s Refractions, funded by The Arts Council. They have also performed at Kaleidoscope Night in Dublin and led educational workshops for Music Generation Kilkenny.
The programme features works by Haydn, Walter Beckett and Tchaikovsky, highlighting milestones in string quartet history – from Haydn’s pivotal 1799 quartet, through Beckett’s evocative 20th-century compositions, to Tchaikovsky’s beloved 1871 Andante Cantabile.
