Jim Deegan talks about the exciting work to bring Maam Cross station back to life, more than 80 years after trains last ran on the Galway to Clifden line. As Director of the Connemara Railway Project, Jim shares the vision behind restoring the site as a working heritage railway complete with tracks, signal cabin, platforms, and heritage trains.
The railway played a huge part in Clifden’s history, linking the town to the wider world and shaping daily life across Connemara. In this conversation, Jim reflects on its legacy, what it means to the community today, and how the project connects with the spirit of the festival, remembering the past while bringing its stories to life for a new generation.
