Breda Lowth Kennedy

Breda Lowth Kennedy is an abstract, mixed-media, landscape artist who produces works that are colourful, unconventional, and an imaginative response to her surrounding environment. She works in her studio located in the garden of her 200-year-old cottage, with a view that stretches right across the Shrule Turlough on the Galway-Mayo border near the village of Shrule.

A turlough is a seasonal flood lake, virtually unique to the west of Ireland, which appears from September onwards and usually begins to dry out completely from April. She has had the privilege of living beside this inspiring area for the past 22 years.

Her exhibition consists mainly of works done on plywood panels mounted on a frame. These pieces represent her observations and interpretations of the constant and dramatic daily and seasonal changes in the local topography. She has also used some aerial videography of the turlough as inspiration, which provides a bird’s eye view of this unique area.

Opening Friday, September 20th at 6.30pm.

Where: Alcock & Brown Hotel, Coffee Room
